Oxygen binding: The hemoglobin molecule binds and carries oxygen to the tissues. When you are anemic your tissues are not getting the oxygen they need. When you exercise, the muscles demand more oxygen, so you get tired much easier.

Lack of oxygen: Red blood cells are responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the muscles and all other organs and tissues in the body. Anemia represents a significant decrease in red blood cells and hemoglobin (oxygen-carrier protein), therefore the entire body suffers from insufficient oxygen delivery leading to the generalized feeling of tiredness.
