Yes: Both tests check to see whether the pregnancy hormone, known as HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is present. The qualitative HCG simply gives a result as to whether any HCG is present or not. The quantitative HCG test actually measures the level of the HCG in the blood. This can be helpful in diagnosis of abnormal pregnancies such as ectopic, molar, or miscarriage.
