Is there a reason to be concerned about my really loud snoring?

Yes: Common snoring is annoying but not usually dangerous. However loud snoring can be a sign of a more serious condition called obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Osas can result in high blood pressure and heart rhythm abnormalities. Obesity can be a co-morbidity and loosing weight may be helpful. Symptoms include day time tiredness and awakening frequently during the night often with a gasp for air.

Absolutely: This can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea. Patients who have osa stop breathing many times during the night and this can contribute to high blood pressure, heart diease, and increased risk of stroke. This should be discussed with a doctor and often a sleep study will be ordered to determine if there is obstructive sleep apnea.
