Supportive: The treatment is mostly supportive, treating fever and pain. If paralytic polio occurs, then the treatment is according to the severity of the symptoms and may include breathing assistance via a ventilator and long therapies after.

No med available: Polio was a side effect of a viral infection that commonly triggered diarrhea. As a virus, there was no medicine to cure or treat it. The virus also attacked nerves in some patients.Once injured, these nerves often died, leaving paralysis in the area/ limbs supplied by those nerves.Patients sometimes improved after the initial swelling around nerves improved, but many retained their paralysis.
