should i use heat or ice on hand swelling that won't go down after 76 hours?

Hmm...trauma?: It depends on the mechanism of injury and clinical situation surrounding your swelling. Ice really only works for initial traumatic or post surgical swelling and not for chronic swelling or anything greater than 24 hours after injury.
