Yes: Heartburn is a common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd). Not all heartburn is gerd( 95%+ is) and not everyone with gerd has heartburn.

Really the same: Some doctors may call more regular episodes of heartburn gerd i.e. Daily as opposed to episodic heartburn that you get from eating too much pizza.

Its a symptom of GER: Heartburn is the most common symptom of gerd. Other symptoms may include coughing or a sensation of a fullness or lump in the throat. Gerd is common, but can result in substantial loss of quality of life and even lead to an increased risk of esophageal cancer. These symptoms should be discussed with your doctor/gastroenterologist.
