It goes quickly: Seeing an orthopaedic surgeon is not much different than seeing other physicians. You'll check in with the receptionist and be put in a room by an assistant. They will ask you why you are seeing the doctor. The doctor will ask some of the same questions and examine you. You may get x-rays, medicine, therapy or injections. Don't leave without a diagnosis, follow-up and all of your ?'s answered.

Depends on the issue: Though at the minimum, a history, a physical exam, and an explanation of the doctor's theory for your symptoms/ chief complaint.

Orthopedic: Your orthopedic visit will address conditions regarding nerves, joints, muscles, bones, cartilage, ligaments, and function. Any exam should obtain history, do physical exam, review pertinent labs and images, come up with a working diagnosis and treatment plan for your orthopedic condition.

Orthopedic Appt: You should expect to have a thorough history taken by a health care provider, a physical exam, potentially x-rays and an assessment and treatment plan. Each visit is highly variable between different physicians and for different complaints. Best of luck!

I am new to palo alto. Can you suggest a good orthopedic doctor in the area?

Leg work: You really have to check yourself by talking to people. Don't take one or two peoples advice for something that important. You can also go onto the state board's website and check the doctors history for legal issues. This may not tell you good doctors but if i see a pattern of lawsuits i would have second thoughts.
A 43-year-old female asked:
Do doctors like it when you go get a second orthopedic opinion?

A second opinion: You are entitled to it. I wouldn't worry about whether or not doctors like it. Most doctors understand and welcome it. If you have any doubts or concerns about your orthopedic treatment, don't hesitate to get a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon.

How hard is it to go through training to become an orthopedic surgeon?

Sports Medicine 42 years experience
Orthopedic Surgeon: The training in orthopedic surgery consists of trauma, adult, pediatric, and hand surgery. 4 yrs college, 4 yrs medical school . 5 yrs residency and most graduates do a one year fellowship. Getting into medical school is hard, but it is even harder to get into an ortho residency. The residency involves quite a bit of work and paying your dues. Each yr more responsibility. It is worth it.
