Vision loss, pain: Optic neuritis is an inflammation of the optic nerve (the main nerve carrying visual information to the brain from the eye). When this happens, the vision diminishes, night vision may disappear, color vision is disturbed, and pain occurs behind the eye when the eye moves. There are many causes of which the most prominent in the young is multiple sclerosis.
