Poison oak belongs: To toxicodendron family (oak, ivy, sumac). The irritant oil (urushiol) is found in leaves, stems, flowers, berries, roots & is active year round. If removing it, wear protective clothing that can be thoroughly washed or disposed of. If burning plants, stay well up-wind, as inhalation can cause respiratory emergency. Herbicides may be best way of destroying plants.
