Some basics: Traditional croup is an infectious illness caused by a number of upper respiratory viruses. It usually comes on after some visible URI symptoms. There is a form of what is labeled spasmodic croup that is linked to asthma & other allergic diseases. It can come on rather abruptly without URI symptoms. A visit to a pediatric pulmonologist and allergist may help you sort this out.
