Depressed: Patients with decompensated cirrhosis or severe depression i.e. Patients that have attempted suicide should not use pegylated interferon. Also, if you have a heart condition, consult your doctor prior to starting.

Contraindications: Contraindications for patient taking PEG-intron, including: 1. Hypersensitivity to pegylated interferon. 2. Hypersensitivity to ribavirin. 3. Patients with decompensated liver condition. 4. Pregnant female. 5. Male with pregnant female partner. 6. Coexisting hemoglobinopathies (e.g. sickle cell anemia, thalassemia). 7. Coexisting autoimmune hepatitis. 8. Severe psychiatric conditions.
