See pain specialist: The treatment of back pain rests on finding the precise cause of the pain. Although you have a herniated disc (seen on mri), this may not be causing the pain. The way to find out is to anesthetize the structure thought to be the cause and ask the patient if the pain was relieved. If so, the diagnosis is confirmed and treatment plan can be arranged. Too many operations based on MRI have failed.
