Head elevation: Keep your head elevated while sleeping, avoid foods that cause water retention, and apply ice water soaked eye pads to the eyes for a few days.

Options: Keep head of be elevated for the first week or so after surgery - sleeping in a recliner is ideal. Icing for the first few days is also helpful. Herbal supplements (e.g. Arnica montana) may be of benefit. In case of more severe swelling your doctor may prescribe a short course of oral steroid medication (e.g. Medrol (methylprednisolone) dosepak).

Ice, Elevation &Time: The best treatment for swelling around the eyes is cold packs, keep your head elevated as much as possible above heart level and allowing enough time for your body to recover. Usually it is only a few days and everything will be fine.
