ORAL MEDS or shot: Finger or 'joint pain' in general can be due to degenerative changes (caused by 'wear & tear', old trauma, or aging). The treatment is usually non-surgical or conservative. Analgesics are recommended for pain such as otc tylenol (acetaminophen) (acetominophen) up to 3000mg/day or otc Aleve 200mg (2 twice a day). A prescription of tramadol may also help. I have also given low volume steroid injections.

A diagnosis: The only remedy for a chronic painful problem is having a diangnosis by history, exam, perhaps images, and even blood work. Go see you doc.
