Deep sedation: Mac stands for "monitored anesthesia care". This is where the anesthesiologist will keep you very sedated during a procedure using a variety of drugs, but the sedation will be short of a general anesthetic where you have a tube down your throat breathing for you. You will still be breathing on your own, but unconscious for the procedure. Common drugs used for this are Propofol or versed.
