Dr. Pamela Pappas answered

Specializes in Psychiatry

Interview you: The doctor (usually a psychiatrist or psychologist) would interview you and take your history. S/he would explore your symptoms and experiences to understand them better, and also delve into family history as well. S/he would ask about any substance use/abuse issues, which can worsen depression. General medical history is also important, as are certain labs like thyroid, vit b12, folate (folic acid) levels.
