What's a good home remedy for chronic nasal inflammation & congestion?

Mentholatum: Consider Vicks vaporub to chest. It has natural menthal smell in petroleum base. It causes decreased swelling in nasal passages and can decrease cough irritation also. This would be good for a cold virus. However if allergic rhinitis "allergies" consider keep windows in home and car closed, avoid pets in home, no cigarette smoking in home, and hepa filter and vacuum with hepa filter.

Saline rinses: Buffered saline nasal rinses have been shown to be as good, if not almost as good, as medicated intranasal steroids in relieving the subjective degree of nasal obstruction (snot-20 questionnaire). A simple mixture of sodium bicarbonate, sea salt and distilled water is all that is needed to relieve much of the nasal congestion that is felt on a daily basis. Failing this, an ENT evaluation is needed.
