How does prednisone affect your mood?

Euphoric grouch?: Prednisone can cause euphoria, agitation, insomnia, mania (especially in bipolar sufferers), psychosis, confusion, hunger, depression and anxiety. Many initially feel very energetic and get a lot done, then exhausted and depressed when it is stopped. Often patients tell me they think they are fine but their families find them short-tempered. Side effects are dose and duration-related; temporary.
