No.: The barnett continent intestinal reservoir is a type of permanent ileostomy for patients with inflammatory bowel disease which does not require wearing a bag. Like any intestinal surgery, some blood loss is common. However, it is rare to require a blood transfusion.

Typically: No if the surgery goes well and you have not had previous surgery in that area. Sometimes scarring makes the surgery more difficult and time consuming and therefor blood loss is greater. Even still, blood is easily and safely replaced.
