Weight loss: Phentermine does not contain caffeine but is an amphetamine. It speeds up your metabolism and decreases your appetite. Because it is a stimulant it can raise blood pressure. Baseline ecg should be obtained prior to starting the medication. If you are healthy without issues it should be safe to take prior to surgery, depending on procedure
