Surgery, but...: Spinal curvature, or scoliosis, is relatively common. In a 44 year old, it is likely due to residual adolescent scoliosis, in which the spine grows "curved" during adolescence. Most scoliosis surgeons reserve surgery for curves over 45 degrees. Improving scoliosis is really only possible with spinal fusion, where instrumentation is placed to correct the curve while the bone fuses.
