Usually 1-2 per day.: There is quite a bit of variability, but 1-2 bowel movements per day is typical. If yours are less frequent, you may need to drink more water each day (8-10 glasses) or increase your intake of fruit & vegetable fiber. Finally, if you still have problems, see your doctor to make sure there are no other relevant intestinal issues.

"Normal" bowels: When defining "normal" for most things in medicine, consider a bell curve. Regarding stool frequency, "normal" is anywhere from 3 movements a day to once every 3-4 days. The peak of the bell curve (ie. Most common) is the magic 1 movement a day that everyone thinks is "normal." the bristol stool scale can also be used to define "normal" stool texture.
