A member asked:

Is it normal for my baby to have bowel movements that are so watery?

Yes: In the early days, breastfed babies will normally tend to have 4-6 or more watery bowel movements a day. If your older baby has a sudden change to watery bms, this may represent illness and you should consider checking with her doctor's office.

Yes: Breastfed newborns typically have looser stools than formula fed. Nonetheless, there are distinguishing features that separate the abnormal from the normal. The newborn stool before solid foods rarely has an offensive odor; a seedy yellow character is common; the baby is generally not fussy. True diarrhea is oftentimes more green, possibly streaked with blood, and smells distinctively sour.
