Conservative is best: Start with conservative treatment such as physical therapy(including strengthening and stretching)& anti-inflammatory meds. Regular exercise, weight loss & smoking cessation are also helpful. Opioid pain medicines not ideal for chronic back pain as they can reset pain tolerance and lead to dependence. Be sure to see a physician first to evaluate whether there is any significant underlying pathology.
