Depends on…: Cause(s) of the pain—injury, muscle spasm, disc problem, spinal stenosis, tumor, etc. Nsaids (otc or rx strength) provide pain relief & fight inflammation. Muscle relaxers can calm tight, spastic muscles as can moist heat applied to affected areas. Stretching, yoga, massage therapy, osteopathic therapy can help others. Some, however, require services of pain management specialist.

Are there alternative remedies out there for chronic back pain?

Yes but...: You can find all sorts of things on the internet, in shops & malls, from friends and neighbors. Most things used to treat back pain (including some conventional things prescribed by doctors) have weak scientific basis. It is hard to prove something works, especially since there are so many causes for back pain. When looking at alternatives consider cost, safety, invasiveness, risk, effectiveness.

...and a money back guarantee if you aren't satisfied. Many shops will offer this if they are legitimate.

Don't Know: This is a general question with a huge list of possible answers. Your best bet would be to get a thorough work-up by a pain management doctor, orthopedist or physical medicine/rehab doctor. Some of the more common causes of back pain include musculoskeletal spasm, strain/sprain, arthritis, herniated discs, history of previous back surgery, scoliosis, and trauma.
