See knee specialist: Pt is the mainstay of treatment; you should thoroughly exhaust it prior to surgery; off-label use of viscosupplementation can sometimes help; if there is maltracking a patellar stabilization brace or taping may help; if nonop treatment fails, surgery can range from knee scope to "clean up" cartilage to open procedures to correct tracking (realign) and/or resurface (cartilage restoration) kneecap.
