A member asked:

With a herniated disk, does it make sense that only one side has loss of spinal flexibility?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can: It is called splinting which means your spine is posturing to prevent or minimize any further load onto the herniated disc. This an involuntary action where the muscles may actually spasm to prevent this possibly causing you to look like you have a scoliosis or your hips are shifted in one direction sideways and your upper body going the other way known as a sciatic shift.
