Diet or weight: A diet high in saturated or trans fat often contributes to high cholesterol and shifting from saturated and trans fats like butter, lard and solid margarine to unsaturated fats like olive oil or canola oil can often help bring down the cholesterol level. Losing weight if you're overweight can also help.
