Possibly.: Jaundice resulting from liver dysfunction is caused by deposition of bilirubin in the tissues of the skin. Bilirubin is yellow in color, and therefore jaundice is typically described as such. Ultimately, skin appearance is due to both bilirubin and the skin's natural coloration by melanin. Those with more melanin may have jaundice that appears as skin darkening.
