Biopsy: Needle bIopsy is 97-99% accurate. Since most biopsies turn out to be benign, needle biopsies avoid unnecessary surgeries and the attendant risks. Also, a proven diagnosis of cancer by needle biopsy allows a more definitive surgical procedure and treatment planning.
