A member asked:

I had a pulmonary embolism two months ago. how long do i have to stay on medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

6 months: The recommended course of coumadin/warfarin for a pe is minimum 6 months. It may be longer depending on history and risk factors. If there are bleeding risks, there are alternative medicines but they aren't as effective. There are alternative therapies as well such as a filter but that's invasive and has additional risks to it.
