A member asked:

What are my chances of getting infected with cmv from blood transfusion?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less than before.: There is going to be a small chance of getting a CMV infection from a blood transfusion no matter what is done, but because there are filters today that remove the white blood cells, to give leukoreduced blood to the patient, the risk is reduced compared to before when these were not available. Even so, contact with infected individuals can result in infection anyway, and it may already be there.
