Yes: This illness comes from the body's reaction to being in close contact to birds. It can be chronic and cause ongoing breathing problems. The patient's doctor can do tests or order a referral to do tests see if that is really the problem.

Psittacosis: Psittacosis can be chronic in affected bird species. I was not able to find literature about chronic infection in humans. However, there can be scarring and long -term effects from more severe Psittacosis. Humans do not become immune to Psittacosis so that can experience recurring infections after contact with infected birds.
