A member asked:

Why would the gas transfer factor be low if you had interstitial lung disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thick membrane: In interstitial lung disease the membranes that oxygen has to pass through to get into from your airways into your bloodstream is thickened. This produces a decrease in the dlco which is a measure of "gas transferability.".
