Preemptive strike: Iga can "stick" to bacteria and viruses on the mucus membranes, thereby activating our immune systems to kill them before they can cause an infection. Sometimes, the fact that an IgA antibody is stuck onto a bacterium or virus is enough to prevent them from gaining entry into the body in the first place.
