See below: You are right, a collection of the 24 hour urine is cumbersome.It is possible to have a estimate of the GFR and creatinine clearance based on serum creatinine with a formula and tables which are easily available, which dose not require the urine collection. The 24 hour collection may be more accurate in extremes of weight etc and not necessary for most clinical scenarios.
