Little or none: Rubber band ligation for internal hemorrhoids is a painless or nearly painless procedure. Sometimes there is a mild pressure symptom easily controlled with non-narcotic medication.

Not terribly: I must assume you are talking about laparoscopic tubal with the bands. It is surgery but considered minimally invasive so the pain is minimal.

How does rubber band ligation work?

Dr. Edward Jacobs

Tubal ligation: This is a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia by laparoscopic surgery using band-aid size incisions. Abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide...You are asleep. The surgeon can see inside your abdomen with a highly specialized 'telescope'. A small silastic band is placed around a 'knuckle' of each tube, the ends seal off and separate, thereby creating a blockage which prevents conception.
