If it is high repeatedly on two or more checks, a test called " immunofixation" should be ordered to be sure it is not coming from only one population of blood cells; rarely, this could be due to a monoclonal gammopathy (a pre-cancerous condition). Or even rarer, a blood cell cancer called multiple myeloma.
