Sure: No one can force you to get a colonoscopy. But if it's cancer, wouldn't it be better to catch it early when the treatment is relatively easier than if you wait for it to spread?

Depends: Work up of abdominal pain depends on your symptoms. A colonoscopy can be an important part of that workup. Other options to evaluate your abdominal pain include a ct scan of the abdomen and pelvis.
A colonoscopy is safe and well tolerated and you have no reason to be terrified. Discuss with your doctor.
