What does high "serum amylase" levels tell you?

Usually pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas and salivary glands raises serum levels of amylase. Serum lipase is elevated on pancreatic inflammation only. Intestinal and renal lesions may be associated the increase in amylase.
