Staining: Foods and beverages can cause extrinsic (on the surface) stains on the teeth. This is not uncommon in coffee drinkers.

Enamel is stained.: Two possibilities: 1. External stain over sticky plaque film coating teeth. Have a good professional cleaning and you may want to consider an electric brush like sonicare for daily use. 2. Longterm use of coffee, tea red wine, cola, etc. Can stain the teeth themselves. After a good professional cleaning if the color is still dark, consider professional whitening.
