Several reasons: Anatomy: left leg swelling may be from entrapment of the left iliac vein between overlying right iliac artery and L5 vertebral body. The incidence of blood clots in left leg is higher, probably because of this. Lymphedema may start or be more prominent in one leg, cellulitis (infection) may result in swelling of that leg. Previous deep venous thrombosis causes swelling in that leg.
