Many things: Leg vein disease. A blockage in the vein drainage in the pelvis also can cause this. This can be the result of a mass in the pelvis such as ovarian cancer. A blockage in the lymphatic system can also cause this. The lymphatic system drains lymph which is the clearish fluid that you see in blisters. Have a Dr. evaluation.

Need more info: More information would be needed to try to understand what might be going on. I'd recommend you start by seeing your primary care physician to an initial evaluation. They are many possible causes of swelling in one leg. It is very important to have this evaluated. If the swelling is sudden, i'd recommend you be seen immediately.

Why does Pericarditis cause leg swelling?

Dr. Gerardo Guerra Bonilla
Family Medicine 13 years experience
Pericarditis : Pericarditis typically has a relatively benign course in uncomplicated cases. Conversely, patients with high-risk features (ie, high fever, large pericardial effusion, cardiac tamponade, failure to respond to antiinflammatory therapy) are at increased risk of short-term complications. Leg swelling is not a common presentation of pericarditis, but could potentially be a feature of heart failure.

What can cause a sudden increase in leg swelling?

Dr. Edward Hellman

Fluid retention: If it is just one leg, then it usually infers something in the leg itself including blood clot, infection, gout, injury, etc. if it is both legs, that usually suggests systemic fluid retention which usually collects first in the legs. Either way, don't hesitate to be seen and accurately diagnosed.
