Dysphagia: If you can't swallow your saliva & it repeatedly gets vomited /regurgitated back, go right to er now. Dysphagia is otherwise distinguished as "transfer dysphagia" (problem moving food from mouth to top of esophagus) versus "transit dysphagia" (problem getting food down esophagus & into stomach). Motility disorders, strictures, ulceration (pill-associated, viral), tumors, etc must all be ruled out.

I use a neti pot every morning. I feel i breathe better. Is this bad? Lately I have a red raw throat wks, worse in evenings. Acid reflux? Or neti pot?

Neti Pot is good: Neti pots done correctly can help tremendously with sinus issues. Follow the instruction to make sure you are not putting in unclean water, etc. It works effectively and should not typically cause any further issues to the throat. If not done properly, it can cause irritation to the local area. There can also be a local viral illness or reflux causing discomfort. Check with an md if not better.

May be : Acid reflux can commonly cause symptoms outside of the stomach or distal esophagus. Examples include persistent, dry cough, aggravation of asthma and laryngoesophageal reflux (ler). Gurgling in the throat is not a common feature of ler and conditions such as zenker's diverticulum should be considered. A gastroenterology consultation if often needed.

GERD: Yes many. First don't eat after 7 pm, secondly chew you food well and minimize water or fluids with you food. You may wish to raise the head of your bed about 5 inches. Lastly see your doctor and get an h2 blocker. Since much of your stomach acid occurs at night. Be careful what you eat.

A 36-year-old male asked:

Is it possible for the onset of acid reflux to be from a physical trauma to the throat?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Sean O'mara
Emergency Medicine 24 years experience
Acid reflux: Throat trauma is not an expected cause for acid reflux symptoms but might make your symptoms of acid reflux more sever especially if this trauma was to your esophageal lining or more directly the exact nature of your throat trauma. If you had a recent esophageal endoscopy this can cause some trauma to your esophagus leaving your more vulnerable to acid and therefore increase reflux symptoms.
