Non-confrontational: If you mean motivational interviewing, it was an approach developed to help the patient with an addiction, say, alcohol, to consider both sides of staying dependent on alcohol or getting into recovery. The motivational interviewer does not say, 'you should get into recovery.' he or she simply helps the patient figure out what is going to cause the least harm in his or her life.
