Good cholesterol: Cholesterol acts with the body's proteins to create strructures known as lipoproteins. These have various sizes and functions. Hdl is generally recognized to form beneficial lipoproteins, hence it is referred to as "good" cholesterol. That is a number that we want to be as high as possible; it is often genetically and hormonally influenced.

?Lower chance of MI?: Hdl particles are the protective particles which can remove fat from cells which are overloaded before cells die. Thus, HDL “tends” to be protective. Lipoproteins carry fat molecules around the body in the water outside all our cells. Thus people with more body fat tend to have more circulating lipoprotein particles & this tend to be more unhealthy, but there is great variation, person to person.
