Make hormones.: The islets of langerhans in the pancreas contain its endocrine cells. These cells produce hormones that help control blood glucose levels in the body. There are at least 5 kinds of islet cells: Alpha cells producing glucagon (15-20% of cells), beta cells - Insulin and amylin (65–80%), delta cells - somatostatin (3–10%), pp cells - pancreatic polypeptide (3–5%), epsilon cells -ghrelin (<1%).
