Outer ear auricle: At one time in our development, the outer ear used to be as big as an elephant's auricle. Only kidding. The purpose of all of the structures of the outer ear are to funnel sound waves down the canal towards the eardrum. A equally good question is why do we have ear wax to clutter the entire system up?
