Adequate calories: Adults in the very old population(>85) often eat less large meals and do better with small frequent meals("grazing"). It is common to observe the largest meal of the day in seniors is breakfast and less food taken as the day goes on. Healthy snacking may assure the elder is getting adequate calories and nutrients for health and disease prevention.

Snacks in elderly.: Snacks are useful for the elderly to keep up their nutritional status. IT's very easy for the elderly to become undernourished, and HEALTHY snacks can help prevent this. As well, snacks help regulate blood sugar, which would help an elderly diabetic. Just make sure the fat and salt content of said snacks is low.
