More than one good: There is more than one good test to establish a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Fasting blood/plasma glucose, measured on two separate ocassions, and glucose tolerance test are the traditional methods. Measuring hb A1c may be as good and does not require collection of a fasting specimen. In all cases the lab results need to be looked at in the clinical context for your doctor to diagnose.
